Sometimes I think we all take pregnancy and birth way too lightly.
We joke about hormonal moods, crazy cravings, and the extreme changes women’s bodies undergo, but rarely stop to realize that we have the ability to make people. If that doesn’t both scare and fascinate you, please enlighten me as to what does.
As someone who is excited to start her own family in the near future, my interest in kids has recently heightened to new levels. As a daily voyeur of mom and lifestyle blogs, the array of knowledge out there deems intimidatingly vast. It’s a new world I’m having fun exploring as an outsider for the time being.
But back to the whole making people thing… I truly regard pregnancy as sacred. The entire process of bringing a person-to-be (and cultivating that little one until they’re full grown) into this world, is a remarkable privilege the universe delivers to all walks of life.
I understand that many face this transition when times aren’t ideal, or even pursue it for the wrong reasons. There can be no judgement when it comes to life, and the choices – lighthearted or heavy, are just as invaluable as the processes themselves.
Sometimes if you’re patient and hold out for what you really want, it comes to you.
When it does, and joy and simplicity overwhelm all else – it must be celebrated, absorbed and remembered. I love the act of sharing gorgeous documentation with those closest to you, and these birth announcements are such a genuine way of introducing that new individual into the lives of those around you.
If you’re a new mom, overtired and under showered, overwhelmed and feeling lost – stop for a minute and realize the complexity of the beauty you’ve created (and give proper credit to your body). Understand this new venture that requires so much love, attention, and energy is the greatest endeavor you can give your time to. One thing focused at a time always conquers the bigger picture (so don’t beat yourself up).
